Episode 1

Episode 1 is the first episode of the first season of Class, and the first episode of the series overall. It was released on February 3, 2023.

Synopsis[edit]

A suspicious death on campus triggers a complex investigation. Dheeraj, Saba and Balli endure ridicule from classmates on the first day of school.

Plot[edit]

At the beginning of the episode, a girl, Suhani, is seen dead on the pavement, having been killed by an unknown assailant. Dheeraj is seen nearby and seems visibly shocked, but otherwise shows no emotion. He is questioned by the police, but doesn't respond when they ask him any questions. It is revealed that Dheeraj is of a lower social class than Suhani, and the police are confused about his history and how he landed a place at Hampton International, a school for the elite upper-class members of Mumbai's society.

Dheeraj narrates the events of his history, and the events leading up to the discovery of Suhani's body. It is revealed that he was given a place at Hampton International after a fire at the Noorpur Khatola Government School after a fire burned the school to the ground as a result of the negligence of Ahuja Builders, who constructed the school years earlier. In what seemed to be a PR stunt, and to avoid scrutiny by the public, the students were given admission to several different schools in Mumbai, with three students given a place at Hampton International.

Dheeraj was joined at the school by two other students, Saba, and Balram, who goes by the name Balli. On their first day attending the school, they face mass public scrutiny and ridicule from the wealthier, upper-class students at the school; mostly due to their lower-class status. Saba is revealed to be an exceptionally bright student, and challenges Yashika, the most academically bright student at Hampton International; the prize is the opportunitiy to study at a foreign university.

Balli, meanwhile, is handsome but is academically challenged and unapologetically set in his wats. He is crafty, which makes up for his lack of academic brilliance, however. Meanwhile Dheeraj cleans tables at the local resteraunt at night and becomes a potential relationship match for Suhani, who takes an interest in him. Veer, Suhani's brother, does not like this.

Suhani and Veer are the children of Suraj Ahuja, the owner of Ahuja Builders—the same builders responsible for building the school that burned to the ground and landed the three students at Hampton. Their father also does not approve of Suhani's interest in Dheeraj, and warn her about possible interactions with both him and the two other scholarship kids. Seeing a PR opportunity, Suraj asks Veer to invite the three students to a party their holding later that night.

It becomes clear that Suhani's life is more complex than initially portrayed; she struggles with addiction due to poor mental state and constant abuse. Her brother Veer looks out for her, but has a flaling tempermant and is often angry.

At school, Balli sees an opportunity to impress the other kids by showing off his Instagram reels. The girls ask him to take of his shirt and dance for him, which he quickly obliges to. Koel is impressed by the interaction, but the students quickly become aware of the approachment of Principle Vandana.

Saba has a more difficult time adjusting to the new school than her peers, however, and is often mocked by her hijab. Her father is a tailor and her brother, Faruq, manages the accounts whilst also dealing drugs on the side for profit.

Balli meets up with Dhruv and takes him to Faruq and the three smoke marijuana and get high. There is an immediate connection between Faruq and Dhruv, and it seems the two are somewhat interested in one another.

Neeru, meanwhile, talks about protesting against the Ahuja family due to their involvement in the fire that burned his school to the ground. Later that night, they trespass on the Ahuja family land and grafitti "Ahuja is a thief" on the wall.

At the party, Koel dances with Balli]], she had previously left her underwear in his locker at school in a desperate bid to woo him. Yashika tells Veer to seduce Saba and expose her sex-tape in front of everyone, and Veer agrees in return for sexual favours from Yahsika. Balli and Koel become close and the two make out but are caught by Sharan, who watches them from afar.

In the present, Dheeraj is still being interrogated by the police, and admits that he regrets ever accepting the scholarship to study at Hampton International. If he didn't attend the school, then Suhani may still be alive.
